About Sofia

Hi, I'm Sofia! I'm a law student at University College London currently in my final year of studies. I am passionate about learning languages, having grown up in a fully bilingual household speaking English with my mum and French with my dad as well as in local school. I also speak fluent German, so am studying German law on top of English law and am currently spending a year in Cologne, which is loads of fun! I also speak fluent Mandarin. I know what it's like to struggle to learn a language and also how fun it can be when you finally understand how the language works or how to use the right slang. There's nothing more satisfying, in my opinion, than feeling yourself improve in a language and realising that you are able to say things you didn't know how to only a few weeks before! French is a challenging language but also one of the most beautiful. I am excited to help you out!

About the lesson

I offer personalised French lessons to children and adults of all ages and at any level. I tailor my lesson plan to your needs: whether you need help with homework, help preparing for exams, or simply want to improve your spoken and/or written French.
Growing up in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, I have done all of my studies prior to university in French, with French as my strongest subject and for which I received multiple academic awards.
I have been tutoring primary and secondary school students in French since I was 14. With younger children, I like to teach through reading stories and playing games. With older students, I help a lot with writing (spelling, grammar, syntax, style), literature, speaking skills, building on the student's own schoolwork as well as with exercises I make myself. With adults, I can help with spoken and written French suited for a casual or professional setting.
I additionally also offer conversational German lessons for beginners and intermediate levels. Growing up in the Swiss school system, I learnt German from age 8 to 18. At 15 years old, I completed a student language exchange and spent 3 months with a host family in Kassel, Germany. I completed a bilingual high school diploma in French and German, graduating with a C1 level. At university, I study English law with German law, which includes modules of German law taught in German and I have just come back of my year abroad spent in Cologne, Germany, where I studied German law at the University of Cologne from September 2022 to July 2023, during which I solidified both my conversational and academic German.

My first lesson is free, so that we can get to know each other and I can learn about your own goals and how to tailor my lesson plan for us to reach that goal together!
