About Fern
My teaching experience in China wasn't exactly structured. So, I was a little concerned that I would get in trouble because we were not using the book provided, but I felt that I was still helping the students. I would answer any of the questions they asked me, even the ones that were definitely not about English.
I really enjoyed my time with the students and wanted to go out again not long after I got home, but life got in the way. I was very excited when I found the ad about "Superprof". I look forward to my next teaching adventure.

Hello
I'm Fern, I am a Canadian Native English tutor. This will be my first experience in teaching in person or online. I am an avid reader and I am very curious about everything. If I don't know what something is used for or what a poster means I try to find out.
I do have classroom teaching experience. I spent about 3 months teaching English in Xi'an, China. I taught 4 classes a day of about 20 - 25 students. I was the first foreign teacher the school ever had, so things were a little strange. There were no set lesson plans required. We were given a small book with short stories to read.
At the end of each story there were several discussion questions. These questions were to see if the students could understand what they were reading about. They did not do very well at this, their comprehension level was very low. So, we tossed the book aside and we had our own discussions.
I had a great time with my students they were all so lively and tried to participate in the discussions by asking me questions.
Some of the questions they asked me weren't actually in relation to the questions I asked them but I answered them the best I could.
