About Caroline

I have a Danish journalism degree, an MA in Creative Writing, and an MA in Danish–English Translation Studies from Goldsmiths. While I’m not a formally trained language teacher, I have over six years of experience supporting higher education students. This has given me a strong interest in how people achieve their learning goals.

I’ve always been fascinated by language learning. Many of us spend years studying languages at school, yet few reach real fluency. One reason is lack of immersion. People often become highly proficient in English, for instance, because they are surrounded by it every day. The good news is that Danish is becoming more accessible too. With streaming platforms, podcasts, and online media, it’s easier than ever to immerse yourself in the language. My aim is to help you engage with Danish in a fun, natural way.

About the lesson

Grammar can often be a stumbling block when learning a new language, especially for beginners. Countless grammar exercises and rules can leave students feeling drained and, paradoxically, even further removed from the language they are trying to learn.

That’s why my beginners’ Danish lessons focus on immersive and interactive activities. Rather than overwhelming you with grammar from the start, I aim to introduce it gradually and in context. My main focus is helping you develop a real familiarity with Danish. Its sounds, pronunciation, and rhythm.

Language is not just something you analyse – it is something you hear, feel, and use. By engaging with Danish in a natural way, you will start to build confidence and intuition for the language. I like to use a range of teaching methods such as audio, flash cards, exercises, and, of course, a good old fashioned word doc.

Each 1 hour lesson is tailored to where you are in your learning journey and where you would like to go. Whether your goal is to hold simple conversations, reconnect with the language, or build a strong foundation for work or university studies in Denmark, the sessions are designed around your needs and pace. After our first couple of sessions, I'll send you a reading list with recommendations for films, tv shows, podcasts and books, so you can immerse yourself in Danish outside out our virtual classroom.

In addition to my normal sessions, I also offer Danish writing lessons for intermediate and advanced learners who want to improve their Danish through creative writing. I find it a fun way to acquire a new language.
