About Szymon
My name is Simon, I am 19 years old. I did IB at IB World School 1531 in Warsaw, Poland. After finishing the school I emigrated to the UK, now I’m on a gap year and applying for university here. Both English and Polish are my native languages. I started teaching first in IB1 to help my friends from Middle school to choose a good collage, and I expanded in IB2 and now I’m a tutor in my school providing counselling regarding choosing subjects in IB and applying to universities around the world. I was first drawn to teaching simply by the fact that you can help a fellow student based on your own knowledge and mistakes, so they don’t make them and succeed in their academic life, and that’s what keeps me going to this day.

The main areas in which I can help as an English tutor are:
- Academic Writing
- Exam Prep (including the Internal Oral Presentation if a students in IB)
- English as well as world literature (it’s historical and cultural context, main works and analysis)
- The curriculum of English B HL and SL subject (as described in the IB DP guide)
My additional strengths are:
- A deep knowledge of the university application system in the UK and abroad (such as Italy, Ireland or The Netherlands).
- Broad general knowledge outside of just the subject of English (My IB subjects were: Chemistry HL, Biology HL, Mathematics AI SL, Geography SL, Polish A SL and English B HL)
During the first lesson I like for us to get to know one another and for the student to outline their main needs for the tutoring so I know what to focus on in the future. I would as well like for the student to provide me with some materials used in their school and the prescribed titles that will be discussed during the lessons so If I don’t know some of those books I can get acquainted with them ASAP. As a person who recently completed IB I know how important exams are, and because of that during our tutoring we will focus not only on the current work but we will regularly practice for exams to mitigate the stress and burden associated with them.
The optimal time for a lesson in my opinion is 1 to 1.5 hours 2-3 times a week, but if required we can make them longer and more frequent.
The perfect student for me would be either a person doing International Baccalaureate either in IB1 or IB2 who would like some help with either just English B HL/SL or that subject and some others that I took, or a person of any educational level who would like some help with their academic writing or get to know the world of literature closer.
