About Tim
I have taught music at the elementary level gr. K-4 for the past 15 years. I have taught beginning band, jazz band, orchestra, choir, and general music. I perform on a regular basis specializing in rock/blues electric and acoustic guitar. I also love to sing, play the piano, write songs and arrange music. My album of original songs, Wilderness, is available on iTunes under my name Tim Ressler.

I have studied many approaches to teaching music and have found that the Feierabend method of Conversational Solfege is the best way to teach music literacy or reading music. However, I'm a firm believer in teaching sound before symbol. The Suzuki approach advocates teaching students music by ear first and then teaching them how to read music at a later stage in their development. This is how I approach teaching my students of all instruments.
When I teach guitar I ask my students to try to define what their goals are. What do they see themselves doing in a year on the guitar? Then I try to break down what is required musically in order to achieve what they envision, and then we begin to develop a plan for attaining that goal.
