About Jassy
I’m Jass, a bilingual Mandarin and Cantonese tutor, fluent in English, and I was raised and educated in Australia since primary school. I also have 12+ years living and working in China and Hong Kong, including 4+ years advising several Fortune 500 companies. I recently returned to Australia to complete my PhD, and I bring both practical and cultural experience to my lessons. I hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) and adjust lessons to suit each student, whether they are following a school curriculum, preparing for exams, or learning Chinese for practical use.

My approach and teaching methodology:
I teach in a friendly, clear, and structured way, tailoring lessons to each student’s goals and level. I focus on:
Practical conversation and communication skills
Correct pronunciation and tones
Reading and writing in both Traditional and Simplified Chinese
Business Chinese for professional learners
I also adjust my explanations to suit non-native speakers, making learning easier and more enjoyable.
Typical lesson length:
30, 45, or 60 minutes, depending on the student’s preference and focus.

Fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English
12+ years professional experience in China & Hong Kong
4+ years experience advising Fortune 500 companies
Experienced teaching children, teenagers, adults, and professionals
WWCC certified

I believe that textbooks are useful for learning Chinese, but if students don’t have any knowledge of the actual language, they can easily lose interest. That’s why I focus first on practical, everyday language such as greetings, simple conversations, and phrases they can use in real life.
Once students feel confident speaking and understanding basic Chinese, we gradually incorporate textbook learning, reading, writing, and more advanced structures. This balanced approach keeps students motivated, confident, and engaged while still ensuring they progress academically.
