About Cristina

I have lived in several different countries growing up among which are Italy, Greece, Malta and the UK, so I’ve learnt first hand the importance of learning new languages along with the importance of adaptation. We are all different and the way we learn is different too, which is why it’s important to understand and make the most of what helps us learn.

Going to international schools all my life I had a very high level of education which gave me an appreciation for learning but especially for the importance of making learning fun.

I love working with children (I’ve also worked at a nursery earlier this year) but I also believe you are never too old to learn, and I find learning at any age to be both admirable and rewarding.
My grandmother, for example, has recently started learning English since my partner is British and I have helped her and my aunt with understanding the language whenever they needed help and with whatever questions they had. There’s nothing to be ashamed of in not knowing something, and there is all to be gained in learning.

About the lesson

Everyone learns differently which is why tailoring lessons is essential. I personally prefer to make lessons fun and enjoyable because no matter what age you are, learning shouldn’t have to be tedious or annoying. In terms of lesson content, I find most effective teaching a mix of common verbs and basic words then tied in with plenty of speaking and listening. My aim is to teach a language so that my students can understand and apply what they learn outside of the classroom.

To help with learning I do suggest, but not enforce, some custom activities for in between lessons based on the student’s interests. I can design myself activities such as word searches, crosswords, matching words or drawings and so on, or I suggest reading or watching something in that language for example any books, movies or tv shows they have watched before or any children’s books, movies or TV shows that they may enjoy. Other possible ways to help learn would be to change the language settings on games the student plays or devices they have. I strongly believe one learns most when enjoying themselves, so if doing anything outside of class is not feasible or enjoyable, the classes on their own are enough.

I myself have studied several languages and I believe this helps me better understand the struggles and difficulties one can encounter. Which is why I encourage students to ask me about anything they have doubts about and to let me know anything in particular they would like to learn first or in depth.

All ages are welcome and lessons would likely be half an hour to an hour long, but time and length of lessons are flexible.
