About Kayla
I believe everyone can be creative and work with my students to create bespoke teaching plans tailored to your goals and skills. My approach is "The rehearsal room must be a safe space so that dangerous things can happen." I create safe spaces where my students feel challenged and motivated to take big risks, sharpening their skills and harnessing their full potential. I'm a director and writer for the page, stage, and screen, with a specialism in new plays and poetry. Alongside this work, I've taught in drama schools and secondary schools, running workshops and longer courses of 4, 6, and 12 weeks on text analysis, role research, acting for new writing, collaborative theatre-making, poetry. I also have an 80% acceptance rate for students I have coached for drama school auditions. I am a three-time Genesis Poetry Slam winner and have been nominated for numerous prizes including the Women's Prize for Playwriting and the Heroica Poetry Prize. I've also been longlisted for the JMK Directors Award and nominated for three Offie Awards. My writing has been widely published across the UK, North America, and online, and I'm the author of two full-length poetry collections.
