About Naya
Hi! I’m Naya. I graduated as valedictorian from my high school in the Medical Magnet Program with a 4.86 GPA, a 33 on the ACT (a 1470 on the SAT), and 4&5's on 9 different AP Tests. I’ve been tutoring since 7th grade and have experience as a long-term math and STEM tutor, an AVID mentor, and a peer tutor across a wide range of subjects. Over the years, I’ve worked with students from middle school through early college in subjects like algebra, chemistry, biology, history, English, and writing. I really focus on meeting each student where they are—starting with what they already know, then building up step by step. I love showing examples, breaking down hard concepts, and sharing the tips and tricks that helped me succeed. Then we practice together until the student feels confident doing it on their own. I also understand how stressful school—and life—can be. I’ve been there. My goal isn’t just to help you do better on a test, but to support you as a whole person. I want you to leave each session feeling a little more confident, a little more in control, and like someone’s in your corner. Whether we’re working on a tough math problem, a history essay, or just trying to stay on track, I’m here to help you thrive—academically and mentally. As a tutor, my approach is supportive, adaptive, and focused on building both skill and confidence. I start each lesson by finding out what the student already understands—this helps guide the session and make it as efficient and personalized as possible. Then, we work through a few examples together, during which I explain my thought process, break down tricky steps, and share tips and tricks that helped me when I learned the material. After that, we move into guided practice where the student takes the lead, and I offer support and feedback. My teaching method is rooted in experience: I’ve taken all of the courses I tutor in myself and understand the challenges from a student’s perspective. I’ve learned not only from excellent teachers but also from my own tutors, and that insight helps me connect with students at all levels. I can easily adapt to their pace and learning style—whether they need visual explanations, repetition, or real-life examples. These lessons are perfect for middle school through college-level students taking biology, chemistry, algebra, pre-calculus, or early college STEM courses. I work well with students who need either long-term support or quick review before an exam. I aim to make each session feel motivating, collaborative, and genuinely helpful. —Naya!
