As a native speaker of English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, I have over three years of experience tutoring students through the California Scholarship Federation, where I worked with high school students in subjects including Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Biology, and other mathematics courses.
My tutoring experience has primarily been in one-on-one and small settings, allowing me to adapt my teaching style to each student's individual needs. Having seen how language barriers can sometimes make learning more challenging for students, I am also happy to provide explanations in Cantonese or Mandarin when helpful.
Having recently completed AP, SAT, and IB examinations myself, I understand the many challenges students may face when preparing for standardized tests. Through developing my own study guides and learning strategies, I have gained practical techniques that I can now share with my students. I earned scores of 5 on AP Biology, AP European History, AP Precalculus, AP Physics I, and AP Calculus AB, and I strive to help students develop their skills and build confidence to help achieve their own academic goals.
My goal as a tutor is to make learning a little less daunting. I aim to create a safe and collaborative environment where students are encouraged to ask questions and seek help when needed. Through fun and engaging lessons, I hope to help reduce the stress and pressure that often come with hard exams and classes.
