About Cameron

My name is Cameron. I'm a M.Sc. student at the University of Calgary, with a specialization in Physics. I have tutored for 3 years in related Math and Physics courses, and learned how to show every student that the only thing keeping them from learning a difficult concept is time. In my time tutoring, I have learned that no matter how difficult a concept may seem to my students, with enough time, positivity, support, and interest, they can learn concepts they never believed they were capable of. This is, and always has been, the ultimate goal for me: to ensure my students feel confident in themselves, no matter what held them back before. The moment of "oh, I get that now!", as a tutor, never gets old. To see the next generation of students enter the world confident in their abilities, and to see them happy and interested in learning will always be my number one conviction. Over my 3 years of tutoring, I have seen that realized potential in every single one of my students, no matter their background.

About the lesson

My teaching method relies on positive reinforcement. Although I believe it's great to inform students of what went wrong - telling them what they've achieved or grown to do is just as important. A typical lesson plan involves first understanding where my student stands in the content, and what they feel comfortable with. I like to start with reminders and review of some basic or fundamental knowledge to set a strong foundation to learn the content. When the student and I are both confident in moving forward, I will challenge my students with incrementally more difficult content until they can understand and handle the questions and concepts on their own. This process can take time, but in my experience, it has allowed my students to grasp these concepts on a deeper level. I like to focus on the student's comfortability, and slowly challenge them further and further until they are confident in their abilities. My lessons are typically tailored towards Middle school math/physical sciences, as well as high school math and physics. For certain classes in University/College, I have also tutored introductory-level physics and math concepts.
