About Perry
I am a professional English (Master of Education) teacher with many years (25) of professional practice. I have created curriculum for the English Department that was used throughout my years of teaching: focused, direct learning methods to engage all levels of learning. I have 25 years of experience working with students (ages 11-15 years old) and adults in the USA as well as other countries around the world.
I am patient and supportive.
I work with each students to have engaging lessons that rely on their strengths, prior knowledge, input and engagement.
My directions are short, clear and effective. The student then begins their learning journey, asking questions and relying on me for support, and guidance throughout an assignment from brainstorming, planning, to completion.
A typical reading lesson would include close reading and
focused note-taking skills using the six reading (Super Six) strategies that help with comprehension: questioning, summarizing, predicting, making inferences, visualizing, and making connections.
Learning and making mistakes are encouraged. The students learn about their own learning styles and can use the experience to re-focus and re-structure how to become successful, analytical learners in today's complex world.
To sum up, I believe all students can and will succeed. I can give them the tools to navigate their educational journey with their learning. And, oh, by the way, humor is a big factor in my teaching practice.
