About Simon
I have taught in secondary schools in the North West of England for 20 years, mainly in classes of up to 30 students, but also on a one to one basis. Students with little motivation or love of languages have been transformed, and achieved higher than target grades, through use of humour, competition and by personalising the lessons to the interests and needs of the student.
I have experience of structured lesson planning, assessment for learning and constructive feedback.
I travelled in South America for six months from the middle of 2017, spending two months at a school in Colombia, teaching English to students aged 10-18.

I am a languages teacher, with a BA degree in French/German and a PGCE, and am also qualified to teach Spanish and ESOL. I teach all subjects up to A-level. I can also teach conversational skills in all four languages. My lessons are entirely tailored to the individual student, be it to prepare for specific examinations, holidays, a move to another country, or just to learn for fun.
Lessons, likewise, are prepared for the individual, taking account of personal interests and character, skills and motivation. Where appropriate, I include all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) in each lesson and work to a set structure (warmer/starter, introduction of objective, core activities, cooler/plenary) Homework/additional activities can also be provided. Work is assessed at the time or after the lesson, and feedback given, allowing students to redo and improve their first attempts.
Lessons should be challenging yet fun, allowing you to feel that your hard work has allowed you to increase your knowledge, skills or confidence.
