About Oscar
I am a pianist from Mexico City, Mexico. I finished my bachelor's degree under the tutelage of the renowned Mexican pianist Jesus Ma. Figueroa Santacruz at the National School of Music from UNAM, considered one of the top universities in the world and the most renowned university in Latin America. In 2016, I received a Graduate Teaching Assistantship at Kansas State University for a period of two years. This assistantship gave me the opportunity to obtain my master's degree in piano performance with the renowned Polish pianist Dr. Slawomir Dobrzanski. In 2018, I chose to continue my studies at the Glenn Korff School of Music in Lincoln, Nebraska with the renowned American pianist Dr. Mark Clinton. Currently, I am a doctoral candidate and expect to graduate in May 2022.

I truly believe that every student has the potential and ability to create, perform, and respond to music, allowing them to have a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. My goal as a teacher is to help my students to experience and understand the process of learning music rather than just focus on performance. In this process of music-making, there are three objectives that I target as a teacher: help my students to create, to perform, and to respond to music.
This includes helping my students develop important skills for a pianist, such as ear training, accompanying, improvisation, recognition of intervals, and memorization, all while providing plenty of constructive feedback.
Finally, I help the students respond to music in a way that enables them to better understand the world around them because music is a universal language that expresses the deepest emotions and feelings of mankind. Through assigned repertoire, my students not only gain knowledge of the composer, but also learn about the development of piano literature throughout the centuries. This is very important because knowledge allows the students to make better performance decisions by adding a different dimension to their music that, as a result, will create more meaningful experiences of playing piano.
