About Maryam
Hello! I'm Maryam Khan, a 20-year-old medical student at the University of Glasgow, and I am thrilled to be your guide in navigating the medical school application journey. During my sixth year of school, I founded the medical society, where I collaborated with career tutors to organize mock interviews. When it comes to preparing students for interviews, I believe in hands-on, practical learning. I kick off our sessions with a mock interview to gauge the student's current skill level and identify areas for improvement. After the mock interview, I provide constructive feedback tailored to their performance, helping them understand their strengths and pinpointing areas that need more focus.
To simulate the real interview environment as closely as possible, I make it a priority to create a supportive yet challenging setting. This approach not only builds confidence but also ensures that students are well-prepared and comfortable when facing actual interviews.
For homework assignments, I curate specific questions and scenarios that I want the students to review. This preps them for our next session, where we delve into their answers together, allowing for a deeper understanding and refinement of their responses.
In terms of UCAT preparation, my methodology is rooted in a systematic approach to identify and address areas of weakness. We start by breaking down the theory behind each question type, ensuring the student grasps the underlying concepts thoroughly. This foundational understanding is then reinforced through untimed practice sessions, allowing the student to build confidence in their abilities.
Once the student demonstrates proficiency and confidence in answering the questions, we transition to timed practice sessions. This step-by-step progression ensures that the student not only understands the material but can also apply their knowledge efficiently under time constraints.
To further reinforce learning and retention, I assign homework that aligns with the topics covered in our lessons. This consolidation work serves as an opportunity for independent practice and allows us to revisit any challenging areas in our subsequent sessions.
