About Richard

Hi, my name is Richard Mathew, and I am currently studying Medicine. I am passionate about helping students build confidence and achieve their full potential in GCSE and A-Level Maths and Chemistry.

Having recently completed my own GCSEs and A-Levels, I understand how challenging it can be to grasp difficult concepts while managing a large amount of content. I aim to make learning simpler and more enjoyable by breaking down challenging topics into clear, manageable steps and adapting my teaching to suit each student’s individual needs.

I have experience tutoring students and it has shown me how rewarding it is to help students overcome difficulties and develop greater confidence in their abilities. Whether you are struggling with a particular topic, preparing for exams, or aiming to push your grades even higher, I will work with you to identify areas for improvement and create a learning approach that works for you.

My academic achievements include A*s in GCSE Chemistry, Mathematics and Further Mathematics, as well as A* in A-Level Mathematics, A in A-Level Chemistry and A in A-Level Further Mathematics*.

My goal is not only to help you improve your grades, but also to help you understand the subject, build confidence and develop effective study and exam techniques. I believe that with the right guidance and support, every student can achieve more than they initially thought possible.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to be friendly, engaging and tailored to each student’s individual needs. I believe the best way to learn Maths and Chemistry is by developing a strong understanding of the topic rather than simply memorising formulae or methods. I will break down difficult concepts into clear, manageable steps and explain them in different ways until they make sense. Lessons will include worked examples, guided practice and exam-style questions to help you apply what you have learnt. I will also identify areas where you may be struggling and focus on improving these throughout our sessions. As you progress, I will gradually encourage you to work more independently and develop your problem-solving skills. My aim is to create a supportive environment where you feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and building confidence.

We sat together in A-level Further Maths, and whenever I was stuck he was brilliant at working out exactly what I had misunderstood, breaking the problem into simpler steps and helping me see the error in my own thinking rather than just giving me the answer. He’s exceptionally strong at maths, but what would make him a great tutor is how calm, patient and approachable he is when explaining difficult ideas. He genuinely cares about helping people improve, and I’d recommend him to anyone looking for a tutor who is knowledgeable, supportive and very easy to learn from.
