About Matty
My name is Matty and I’m currently studying medicine at Hull York Medical School. I have wanted to be a doctor for as long as I can remember, so I’m very grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given to make that dream become a reality.
Part of my role as a doctor will be to teach those who are undergoing earlier stages of their training, so I want to put into practice my teaching skills early to help me develop them over time.
I have been in education for most of my life and have come accross many excellent teachers, and even more who weren’t so good. I think that I have experienced enough teaching to know what makes a great lesson and what makes a not-so-good lesson. GCSE’s and especially A level can be a really challenging and overwhelming time, so it’s important that students develop effective ways of revising as early as possible, and get into a good routine to ensure they don’t fall behind.
I am really keen to help students who are struggling with their studies to not only become better in that particular subject, but also to become better learners in general.

I am quite new to tutoring, but as someone who has been in education for most of my life and is now studying an intensive degree at university, I know what makes a good teacher. I believe the best way to maximise student’s achievement is by being relatable and making the lessons fun and engaging. It’s important to make sure that students apply their knowledge throughout, rather than simply listening to long-winded explanations and trying to remember that when they come to revise later on. 30-60 minutes of intensive and active revision is much more valuable than 4 hours of ‘bad’ revision. Therefore, I like to make sure that my lessons are short and interactive to ensure the best possible result.
