About Mohamed

From 2014-2020, I have been a:
1) University Medical Tutor for 1st and 2nd years of medicine.
2) First year Biological Sciences tutor
3) High school level subjects including Maths and Natural Sciences.
4) Primary level tutor for most subjects.

About the lesson

At Highschool level or below, I teach subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics as well as history, computer studies, any natural science and mathematics.

At University level, I tutor BSC subjects like CMY MLB and MTL, Genetics, Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology and molecular biology

When did you develop an interest in your subject and in private tutoring?
I developed an interest early on in high school when I was tutoring my younger siblings. I've always had a passion for learning and helping people so that is why I pursued a career in medicine.
Tell us more about the subjects you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
I have always loved sciences and history. Biology and Chemistry were my favourite subjects in school followed by history, maths and physics. I found myself quite interested in finding out how things work. From our own bodies to the universe surrounding us. It captured me.
Did you have any role models? Perhaps a teacher that inspired you?
I had a science teacher, Mr Samuel. He approached every topic differently and he spoke with such passion about science. His favourite biology topic was cells and their inner workings. It became mine, eventually.
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
One needs to be patient, understanding and prepared. A good plan of action that extends beyond the tutoring lesson is my personal hallmark.
Share an anecdote related to your subject or your schooldays.
During the first 6 months of my university experience, we had to do chemistry. I've always done well in it but for some reason I was struggling when we had weekly MCQs. I barely could pass them. I needed to get very good marks in chemistry to get accepted in the medical program so giving up was not a choice. However, MCQ after MCQ, I couldn't do better than 60 percent. Then came my semester test which accounts for quite a lot. I knew I needed a different approach. I sat down, took every chapter to detail and practiced every question i could get my hands on. I got 90+ percent. I applied this method to my other subjects, the following tests and then, shortly after, I was accepted into medicine.
What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing at school?
My biggest challenge, as stated above, was finding a correct study method. I always thought it was fixed but instead it should be adaptable.
Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, an element of this particular subject, or something completely different?
I love teaching. Soon after getting accepted into medicine, I was called on by the university to tutor the year below me. I was so happy and nervous. To combine my love for medicine and natural sciences with the ability to help someone else brings much joy and satisfaction to me. Similar to successfully treating my patients.
What makes you a Superprof?
I have used this platform for a while now and I definitely see the potential in it. I ask all my students to go though it and review me there. I will always do so. I intend on giving my my absolute best to them and that's why I believe in this platform and that I am a Super Prof.
