About Mahana
I am a New York–based karate instructor with experience teaching teens and adults at the beginner and intermediate levels. My background includes training in both Kyokushin and Shotokan karate, giving me a balanced approach that values strong fundamentals, proper technique, and practical application.
As a female instructor, I place a strong emphasis on safety, clear communication, and creating a respectful and supportive training environment. I believe karate should be challenging but approachable, especially for beginners or those returning to training after time away.
I view karate as a lifelong practice rather than a short-term activity. My goal is to help students build skills, fitness, and self-discipline in a way that supports long-term growth and sustainable training, so they can continue practicing and improving for years to come.

My lessons are designed for beginners and early intermediate students, from teens to adults, with no prior martial arts experience required.
Training is based on karate and kickboxing fundamentals, focusing on proper body mechanics, balance, distance, and timing. Before starting, I take time to understand each student’s goals, experience level, and physical condition, and adjust the lesson content accordingly.
Each session combines practical techniques, functional fitness, and structured drills so students understand not just how to move, but why they move that way. Lessons also help build discipline, focus, and confidence in a clear and approachable way, without pressure or intimidation.
