About Marcus

Hi! I’m an MChem student at the University of Bath, currently on track for a First-Class Honours degree. I’m a patient, approachable tutor with strong communication and active listening skills. I tailor each session to the student’s learning style and pace, helping them feel supported and confident as they prepare for their GCSEs. I use proven study techniques like active recall and spaced repetition, along with targeted past paper practice to boost retention and exam performance. I’m also part of the University’s Peer Mentoring Programme, where I support first-year students with both academic and personal challenges. This experience has strengthened my ability to guide students in a way that’s encouraging, empathetic, and effective. Outside of studying, I enjoy playing the piano — a creative outlet that’s taught me patience and focus, which I bring into every tutoring session. Whether online or in-person (in Dorchester), I aim to create a friendly, productive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and making real progress.

About the lesson

I am an MChem student at the University of Bath, currently on track for a First (1:1). I achieved Grade 9s in GCSE Maths and Science, and A* in A-Level Maths and A Chemistry, and Physics. I offer tutoring for students in Year 9 to Year 11, tailored specifically for those preparing for their GCSE exams. Lesson Structure: I offer 1 to 2-hour sessions, either online or in person (in Dorchester). Lessons focus on developing strong subject understanding, exam technique, and long-term retention. My approach is centred around active recall and spaced repetition — powerful study techniques backed by cognitive science. I help students understand key concepts first, then reinforce them through structured revision using tools like flashcards or quick quizzes. We consolidate learning with past paper practice to improve exam technique, identify gaps, and build confidence in applying knowledge under timed conditions.
