THE POWER OF APPRECIATION: HOW ONE TEACHER CHANGED MY PATH

After my 10th-grade exams, the common trend in 2016 was for everyone to choose the science stream; however, I decided to take the commerce stream instead.

For me, the commerce stream was the beginning of a new chapter—everything was fresh: a new path, a new career, and a new dream. On the first day of Business Studies, we had the wonderful opportunity to meet Archana Ma’am, who would be our teacher for the next two years.

At first, we thought she was very strict. But as time passed, she motivated every one of us to build a successful career in commerce. Until the 10th grade, I struggled immensely with public speaking. I still remember when she divided the last three chapters of the 11th-grade syllabus among our 14-member class to present as seminars. Thirteen of my classmates had already finished their turns, and I was the last one left to present the final chapters.

By God’s grace, I delivered my portion without fear, speaking confidently in front of Archana Ma’am and my classmates. When the presentation was over, she appreciated me in front of the whole class, saying, "Joel’s seminar was the best in the class." That moment gave me the motivation I needed to speak in public without fear—a confidence I still carry today.

That single appreciation molded me and gave me the courage to face an audience. Because of her encouragement, Business Studies became one of my favorite subjects, and I went on to score above 85% in both my 11th and 12th-grade annual examinations.

Her teaching style was exceptional; she explained every topic using real-life examples that stuck in our minds, helping us clear our exams with great marks. She was like a mother who truly cared for her children, and that care made every Business Studies session a wonderful experience.

I feel truly fortunate to have been a student of Archana Ma’am.
