About Matthew
I have taught students through The Linacre Institute (a charity supporting talented but underprivileged students in state education to compete with independent college students when applying to Oxbridge and other top universities), for nearly 3 years. I have taught about 10 students individually, often by Skype, giving them a deeper understanding of what they have been taught in college to aid them with interviews and give them the best chance of obtaining the grades their university offers require. I have also taught groups of 2-6 students parts of the syllabus they will not cover in college in order to get them up to speed for entrance tests. In addition to this I have run mock interviews both in person and via Skype to give students confidence and experience with thinking on their feet and being able to work in an effective and academically attractive way. Students I have taught have been very successful, with some receiving reduced offers after impressing at interviews, and almost all performing much higher at A level than AS and than their teachers had predicted.

I'm a Mathematics student at the University of Leeds, currently on track for a 1st and in my 3rd year. I'm from Wakefield and so am able to continue with lessons based in West Yorkshire (or anywhere in Britain via Skype) when away from University. I aim to help sixth form students intuition and ability to use the information they have more effectively, and also to understand the reasons that techniques and theorems taught in school/college work. This makes answering difficult A Level questions much more manageable - rarely is the problem that a student hasn't memorised a formula correctly but a lack of confidence and ability to spot how the information they have memorised is useful. However, understanding 'why' also makes memorising much easier also, killing two birds with one stone effectively. I am happy to teach maths students or the relevant maths for other related subjects e.g. sciences, finance based subjects.
