About Dongquan
I am finishing a PhD in Medical Statistics at UCL receiving a fully funded scholarship. I came from a strong background with a BSc in Mathematics at University of Birmingham (first-class) and a MSc in Medical Statistics at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, funded by the National Institute of Health Research and Care.
I have worked as an academic at UCL, University of Oxford and Queen Mary for 5 years, providing mathematical support to clinical studies investigating the effect of health care interventions. I have published a series of research papers. My academic background brings me a depth of subject expertise that goes beyond the syllabus and the ability to clearly understand complex materials and translate them to others.
I am patient, understanding and great at communication, which I believe are key when it comes to tutoring. It is more than just to show the student how to solve a question, but to understand the student's personality and psychology so that we can find an approach that suits their way of thinking.
I am fully DBS checked (updated on 1 Sep 2025). My standard price can be seen on my profile. I may need to charge for my travel based on the distance I will need to travel.

Maths tutoring*:
I am experienced in maths tutoring across a wide range of levels, from Reception to University level.
- Primary school: 7 students (Reception, Year 1, Year 3-6)
- Secondary school: 5 students (KS3, GCSE)
- A level: 3 students
- University level: 4 students from BSc. Maths, MSc. Statistics and BSc. Financial Mathematics programmes, covering modules including Analysis, Algebra, Group Theory, Probability Theory, Applied Statistics, Differential Equations, Topology etc.
*I am new to this platform but have received positive feedback in the past - I am happy to share them upon request.
My teaching approach depends on the student. I don't believe in "one style suits all". I will get to know you, your habit of learning and thinking, based on which I will find a way of teaching that suits you.
I will assess your current level and make a tailored syllabus-aligned studying plan. Each session, we will work on a (or multiple) target topics. This involves us working on worksheets and you bringing questions. Depending on areas you'd like to improve, I will bring extra materials/exercise so that you are ready for different transformations on the same concept.
For higher-level maths (further maths and university level), it is very important to go through basic definitions so we will need to spend time on that - trust me it is well worth it.
My standard rate applies to Primary school and Secondary school only. My rate for A-level and Further Maths is £55/hr. For University-level maths, it will depend on the modules/programmes - please get in touch with me to discuss.
