About Joshua

In my day job, I'm an engineer for emerging technologies.

This involves coming up with something which functions simply using complicated methods. I have to present the inner workings to people without an engineering backgrounds.

I enjoy teaching as the two fields completement each other. I've taught over 1000 hours.

I've worked on developing levitation and 3D printing technologies with the University of Bristol (concepts, software, electronics and physics). Developing wildlife trackers to track Terrapin Turtles across beaches in the USA and SE Asia. Citizen Science air quality projects around the UK. I developed performance measurement tools for the British Olympic sailing team and at one point taught the team the physics of sailing.

My teaching style is relaxed but with some structure so we can make progress.

About the lesson

I teach school maths and engineering maths for undergraduates and postgraduates.

I show how methods work and how to use them for something realistic without more theory than you need (unless you ask me to then sure lets go!).

I break things down into simple chunks. Then look at joining each chuck together to make sure you're confident with every part of your course.

Normally we will start by looking at some of your exams or homework and decide if there are any topics which need practicing. I teach using a tablet and interactive whiteboard so we can both work on problems together.
