About James

Hello, I am an Economics and Mathematics graduate with a passion for teaching. Maths has always been my favourite subject and I am inspired to help others improve their relationship with mathematics. I am warm and friendly, and make sure that the student is comfortable tackling a challenge before presenting it to them. Building confidence is extremely important because everyone makes mistakes, but with confidence those mistakes are met with determination rather than a feeling of failure. I use many techniques to teach maths; my lessons are dynamic and fluid meaning that I can increase or decrease difficulty in the middle of a lesson depending on the student's progress. The most important person is the student, and it is in the interests of everyone to work together so that we can achieve the objectives that we set beforehand. I have always helped family and friends with maths but my tutoring took off in late 2016. In that time I have tutored three students through different stages of their GCSEs and I now have three long-term students, ages 10-16. I am looking to help more students, be it short term or long term, with their understanding of mathematics. I am available all day on weekends and during evenings on weekdays.
