About Daniel
Education is a passion of mine. I have always loved Maths, and helping others appreciate the importance, elegance and relevance of the subject – even if they do not particularly like it – is one of the pleasures of tutoring for me. As a teenager I worked for HegartyMaths during holidays, during which time I learnt about the process of designing lessons and questions to test and develop students’ skills progressively. The ethos of the company also instilled in me the deep belief that learning Maths (and any subject, at that) is not a question of a student’s competence, but of the subject’s delivery, and how well a teacher can account for a student’s prior knowledge, learning style, personality, and confidence. In the course of the 6+ years since, I have tutored over 20 students 1-on-1 across a range of subjects, levels and curricula, as well as volunteering my time to teach groups of primary and secondary school children after school and on Saturdays. Alongside this, I have been teaching in various roles for many years, from explaining the everyday to my sister seven years my junior to leading multiple a cappella groups during my undergraduate degree. Now, I am studying for an MSc in Computer Science student at UCL with a scholarship, having graduated with a 1st in Philosophy and Mathematics from the University of Edinburgh. Prior to this, I obtained a full scholarship to Harrow School, where I obtained 5 A* grades or equivalent at A Level. I have learned not only how to achieve sustained success and develop academically, but how to pass these skills onto others in addition to subject-specific knowledge.

My approach to tutoring is holistic: while thorough instruction in the subject is essential, so too is instilling principles of good learning. As such, I encourage my students to form good habits, learn how to interpret questions and deconstruct problems into their tractable parts, among other skills. Relationships are at the heart of tutoring, for which reason I am adaptable in my approach, and in how I communicate. I also strive to be flexible when it comes to availability, particularly for important milestones such as internal tests and exams for my students. Drawing from my own student experiences, and my experience working as a volunteer mentor, I make sure to embrace each student as an individual and accompany them on their academic journey; through talking and working together we draw out together what they would like to achieve, and how we can work together to achieve it. All of this works best when parents are also invested as much as possible, for which reason I communicate openly with the parents both in setting expectations and in mapping out progression.

I simply cannot recommend Daniel highly enough. My motivation for arranging for a tutor for my son was not simply about getting good grades. Like many young people, my son has felt the impact on the pandemic and school has been a significant source of stress as we returned to our ‘new normal’ life. Daniel worked with my son on work he had been set but it very quickly became clear to me that he really ‘got’ my son and was weaving in puzzles, talking points and reflections that seemed to spark my son’s confidence! This was incredible and my son was buzzing after each tutoring session. I am incredibly grateful to Daniel for being such an important presence during a difficult time and sharing both his passion for maths but also his belief in my son’s capacity and ability in such a natural and meaningful way. He is a remarkable tutor and I feel very grateful to him.
My son said this about Daniel: I liked how it was fun and I was comfortable during the calls, the puzzles and work was also fun and a good way to get someone to focus.
From David: the sessions with Daniel has been quite helpful with my learning and understanding of new topics, particularly how clearly he explains the subject topics. It has also been really helpful for me in understanding some subject topics I struggled with in school like trigonometry, which I now have a better understanding of.
I am very pleased with having Daniel as my child's tutor to provide the extra learning and support he needed outside of school with the school curriculum and I'm glad my child is very comfortable with his sessions and how well engaged he is during the sessions with him. I am also very pleased with how Daniel regularly gives feedback, recommendations and follows up on my child's progress, particularly the recommendation he made when I mentioned about how my child needed more support with his English literature in addition to the school learning. Daniel recommended a book, which they then have been reading together during sessions and working on the different assessment objectives.
My child said he now has a better understanding on the different assessment objectives and I am happy with the progress he has made so far.Daniel is a really down to earth and intelligent tutor. You can tell instantly that he is a very capable mathematician and thinks very logically in a way which is understandable to anyone listening. What separates him from other tutors is how he is a good listener and is able to change his explanations to fit the students thought process. He is very patient and listens to how you think about problems and he manoeuvres his teaching accordingly.
After a hard working year with Daniel, I achieved an A* in A-level maths for year 12.
He’s an all round intelligent, honest and friendly guy. I could not thank him enough for helping me on my jeorney.
I would recommend him to anyone who wishes success in mathematics.View more recommendations
