About Catherine
I have been teaching mathematics for 30 years. I have taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus, and AP Statistics. I was Teacher of the Year in 2021, and I have been nominated 3 times. I was also a Phi Beta Kappa regional teacher of the year finalist, as well as a PAEMST nominee.
At my high school I sponsor our UIL mathematics team, as well as our engineering club. I grew up loving math, and I am also a musician and high school head softball coach. I currently play in an orchestra outside of school, and I am working on my PhD in Mathematics Education. I am very patient and try to break things down in a practical manner, so they make sense. "When will I ever use this?" A common math query...I try to answer that question as much as possible. I simply love teaching. I have been at the same high school for more than 25 years, and I enjoy the a-ha moments when someone struggling with math has a light go on.

I have been teaching mathematics for 30 years. I have taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Precalculus, and AP Statistics. I like to use a practical approach to enhance the foundational understanding. It's not just a formula but where the formula comes from and why it works. I like to use practical applications and real-world examples to maximize understanding. I use memory aids and tools, including acronyms and other devices, to make things simpler. I am very patient and motivated to share. I was inspired by a teacher I had in high school that explained everything clearly without judgment and genuinely cared about students and their comprehension.
