About Yiyan
I have lots of experience working with children ages 6-12!
This includes:
- volunteering at camps including Virtual Ventures Carleton Camps and Soong Badminton Academy badminton camps
- taught private piano lessons for four months at Janet's Music School, which gives me experience with 1 on 1 tutoring!
- taught badminton for two years at Soong Badminton Academy. These are group lessons, and give me experience in group lessons!

My qualifications:
- IB Higher Level Math (Grade 12 course), currently have a 97 in the course
- consistently getting top 25% nationally in math contests! This includes CSMC, Cayley, Math Kangaroo and more!
- Passion for math - whenever I have free time, I am always extending my knowledge as a student and a teacher!

Age demographic:
- I can work with kids aged 3-13 (Kindergarten to grade 8)
Typical lesson plan and teaching techniques:
- Talk about the theory! Explain how to solve these kinds of problems, the formulas, etc
- Will walk through example problems step-by-step, including challenging ones as well!
- Will play some fun math games to warm up or to develop skills!
- Give practice problems for you to try; if you cannot do it - that's okay! I will walk you through it!
- will give some homework - not all of it will be mandatory! Just try a couple in your free time to make sure you can do the problems!
- May have some sort of evaluation, depending on why you want tutoring! It is something we can decide together (could include projects, or quizzes, etc!)
- Every class will be slightly different - depending on what we are learning!
What sets me apart as a tutor:
- I love working with kids, with lots of experience listed above, I can help make math fun, engaging and understandable for kids of all ages
- I have experience working with children who have short attention spans, I am able to get children to keep their attention with fun activities, games and breaks!
- Experience helping others with math at school and explaining math to friends and peers alike. It requires patience, quick thinking and general knowledge.
