About Joshua

I am currently going into the second year of my Economics and Global Sustainable Development degree at the University of Warwick. Through my years in education, I have always built on my previous mathematical foundations and pushed myself to learn new content, and now I am looking to help others do the same, with the purpose of helping them get qualifications that open doors. I know what success looks like within maths, and how to get there. I got a grade 9 in Maths in 2022, whilst grade boundaries were known to be on the rise post-Covid. I also achieved a grade A in my A-level maths, despite not receiving any help from my teachers in my last term of school. I still do maths as part of my degree, achieving a 2:1 in my end of term exam in my statistics module. Outside of my academics, I am an avid sports fan who is heavily into football and basketball in particular. I also play these sports casually when I can. I am also a spoken word poet, having taken this up within my first year of university.

About the lesson

Teaching Techniques & Methodology: - I focus on building strong conceptual understanding—helping students see not just how to solve a problem, but why each step works. - Lessons are interactive, using questions and real-life examples to ensure active participation and deeper engagement. - I break down complex topics into manageable parts and regularly use visual aids to clarify key ideas. - For exam preparation, I integrate past paper questions and timed practice to develop exam technique and confidence. - Mistake analysis is a key feature; students are encouraged to learn from errors in a supportive, growth-oriented environment. Typical Lesson Structure Duration: 60 minutes per lesson. Qualifications & Experience: Current student at the University of Warwick reading Economic Studies and Global Sustainable Development (BASc), with a strong mathematics track record (A in A-Level Maths, 9 in GCSE Maths). Experience delivering engaging academic sessions as a Facilitator for the National Citizen Service. Background in STEM outreach, having co-planned and delivered a masterclass with the Royal Institute. Skills in economics and statistics, with a particular focus on microeconomics, quantitative analysis, and effective communication. Practical, real-world experience gained from work placements and internships, strengthening my ability to link maths to everyday situations and career contexts. Who My Lessons Are For: - GCSE and A-Level mathematics students seeking to improve their grades, confidence, and problem-solving abilities. - Typically ages 14–16, but open to all secondary level learners. - Well suited for students preparing for exams, aiming to excel in coursework, or hoping to pursue maths-related university degrees. I create a supportive, motivating environment so every student can reach their full potential in maths.
