About Anita

Hello! I’m Anita, a math tutor with 3 years of experience helping students of all ages understand math and feel confident in it. I will hold a degree in Applied Mathematics with an Emphasis in Statistics and a minor in Data Science from Cal Poly, and I have worked with students at every level, from elementary school arithmetic to university calculus and statistics.
Over the years, I’ve learned that most students who struggle with math aren’t missing ability. They’re missing a clear explanation and someone patient enough to find exactly where things stopped making sense. I take the time to understand how each student thinks, fill in the gaps, and build their skills step by step until difficult topics feel manageable.
I come to every lesson on time and prepared, with materials matched to the student’s course and goals. I keep students, and parents of younger learners, informed about progress, strengths, and areas to work on. No question is too basic. I create a calm, judgment-free space where mistakes are part of learning.
I love seeing the moment when a concept finally clicks and starts displaying fundamental understanding. My goal is not only better grades, but lasting confidence and skills that carry into every future math class.

- I usually start by asking probing questions to evaluate where the student's starting point is.
- I use a variety of types of explanations to describe problems and solutions to acclimate to different types of understandings.
- Example practice problems are always extremely helpful when it comes to remembering concepts in math, so I use these a lot and go into the procedure of solving these problems in depth.
-A typical lesson plan looks like me assessing the core concept we want to go over that day as well as identifying where the confusion is. Then, I would briefly explain the concepts before going over some concrete examples to solidify understanding or get the student comfortable with working through these problems. Afterwards, I would ask the student to try a similar problem on their own, and then review their thinking process, work, and solution together. In the end, I would review what was covered and start thinking about what to do next lesson.
-Lessons are for any student struggling with subjects Algebra I & II, Calculus I & II (AB or BC), Trigonometry, Geometry, Statistics, Probability, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. Also, Test prep, including the SAT, ACT, and PSAT.
