About Sophia
I am a university mathematics professor with a PhD in Mathematics and 16 years of teaching experience. My undergraduate degree is in Elementary Education, giving me a strong foundation in both mathematics and teaching. I currently teach college-level mathematics at Rutgers University and have extensive experience helping students across a wide range of ability levels. My background in both mathematics and education allows me to do more than simply show students how to solve a problem—I focus on helping them understand why the mathematics works. I specialize in Algebra, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Calculus I, and Calculus II.

My lessons are individualized to each student’s course, learning style, and goals. Rather than simply working through homework problems, I identify gaps in understanding and teach the underlying concepts and problem-solving strategies students need to become successful independently. Sessions may include concept review, guided problem solving, exam preparation, homework support, and targeted practice. I offer one-on-one virtual and in-person instruction for high school and college students, including Algebra, Precalculus, Trigonometry, Calculus I and Calculus II.
