About Sam

Hello. My name is Sam. I am a full time maths tutor with qualified teaching status and PGCE, who has a specialism in A-level maths and further maths teaching.

Teaching is very rewarding since I get do something I enjoy on a regular basis in mathematics. It is also rewarding especially if I am able to make a difference to a student's future and perhaps even inspire them to study maths further themselves.

I hold a 2.1 BSc in maths and statistics from the university of Warwick, and I have taught at 4 different schools over the space of three years, most recently at Harris Westminster Sixth Form alongside this I have done many hours of face to face/online private tutoring roughly 5 hours per week. Now I am at the stage where I am able to tutor full time (roughly 20hours per week and willing to take on many more students)! Therefore my hours tutored are far higher than what is advertised on this platform.

About the lesson

I believe that with the correct style and sufficient amount of effort basically anybody can understand the subject which I have had (and still have) such a desire to learn, maths. When it comes to how I teach I the following are important to me...

(1) Encourage learning by doing. That is rather than bombarding students with information, go through a topic and ask the student a series of short questions to ensure that they understand all the details and that they feel involved rather than being passive. As well as an emphasis on going through example/past paper questions.

2) Repeat, repeat and more repeat. I make sure my students consistently go over prior learning at the start of every one of my lessons, in order to build confidence and fluency .

(3) I am confident in teaching all GCSE and A-level maths and further maths exam boards pure, statistics, mechanics and decision. I have a unique selling point in that I specialise in the statistics modules due to my degree.

Perfect! Sam is a fantastic tutor. My twin daughters thoroughly enjoyed learning A-level Statistics and Mechanics with him. Despite having a weak conceptual understanding initially, Sam helped them build their confidence and develop a much stronger understanding of the subjects. They found his lessons incredibly useful in preparing for their exams.

Sam is organised, motivating and adapts his teaching to suit their individual learning needs. Both my daughters achieved solid grades and found his explanations clear and easy to understand. I would highly recommend Sam.
