About Mbibong

One of the key skills I have acquired over the years is to be patient with students. I tell students that my mathematics lessons are one of the few venues where it is okay for them to be wrong. When a student falters, it presents an opportunity to diagnose the possible roots of why the error occurred and correct it. In a classroom, this strategy is useful because not only does it help a particular student, but also other students who may be encountering similar difficulties as well.
Students should expect to write and present their work/solutions. This way the instructor can follow the logical progression of their thinking and strategies, make necessary adjustments and provide feedback wherever required.

Helping students overcome their challenges with mathematics and statistics goes beyond assisting them getting the correct answers. Many students struggle because of gaps in the foundation needed for them to read a problem, understand what the problem is asking for and requires, and applying the requisite background foundation knowledge needed to solve the problem. Students should be trained to understand that certain strategies or formulas can be used to solve a problem, but also why it works. Some high school students intuitively know that (3)(1)=1 but struggle with the answer to (k)(1) for the simple reason that they are missing the foundation background understanding of the multiplicative identity property which applies to anything multiplied by 1, not just integers.
I work with students from the middle school level to the college/university levels.
I encourage students to reason, speak and write using the applicable mathematics language.
Mathematics is everywhere and all around us with all its seemingly endless applications, hence the moniker, "The Queen of Science".
