About John

I graduated summa cum laude from William & Mary with a degree in math and earned a 4.0 GPA in my mathematics coursework. I have over five years of tutoring experience with middle & high school students, college undergrads, and adult learners, including students who are returning to math after time away from school. I take tutoring seriously and always come prepared. With this said, I like to keep lessons relaxed and conversational. I want students to feel comfortable asking any question. My goal is to help you understand math in a way that actually sticks, not just survive the next assignment :)

I am currently studying to become a property and casualty actuary, so I spend a lot of time thinking about math and problem-solving. Outside of work, I like to study Mandarin, rock climb, and listen to techno music!

About the lesson

I have extensive experience teaching middle and high school students, college undergraduates, and adult learners, including students returning to math after time away from school. My approach is to build real intuition first: I want students to understand what a problem is asking, why a method works, and how the ideas fit together instead of just memorizing steps. A typical lesson starts with the core concept, builds it from the ground up through clear examples, and then moves into practice problems where we apply the idea carefully. I take the time to make math feel coherent, useful, and even enjoyable.
