About Emily

I bring a strong academic and professional background to my tutoring. I earned my B.S. in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University and currently work as a Project Engineer, where I use math, problem-solving, organization, and clear communication every day.

My goal is to create a supportive and professional learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as they learn. I understand that math can feel frustrating, so I focus on patience, encouragement, and clear step-by-step explanations.

Students can expect each lesson to be organized, respectful, and focused on their individual needs. I come prepared, communicate clearly, and work to help each student build confidence, strengthen their math skills, and feel more prepared in class.

About the lesson

My approach as a tutor is patient, organized, and step-by-step. I focus on helping students understand the “why” behind each math problem, not just memorizing steps. I like to break concepts down into smaller pieces, work through examples together, and then let the student try similar problems with guidance.

A typical lesson starts with reviewing what the student is currently learning in class and identifying where they feel stuck. We then go through homework, class notes, or practice problems together. I explain the concept, model a problem, and then have the student work through problems while I support them. At the end, I like to review key takeaways and suggest what to practice next.

What sets me apart is my background in Civil Engineering and professional experience as a Project Engineer. I use math and problem-solving in real-world settings, which helps me explain concepts in a clear and practical way. I am calm, encouraging, and focused on building confidence.

My lessons are best for elementary, middle school, and high school students who need support with elementary math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, homework help, test prep, and math study skills.
