About Emma
I am an aspiring teacher in my second year at Queen's University, studying French and Sociology. I have wanted to teach since I was 10 years old and have lots of experience as a Soccer Coach, Math/Reading Tutor at Kumon and as a French Tutor for underprivileged students. I value effort and commitment in students and fully believe in the "I won't get there YET" attitude. I am dedicated to helping students gain confidence in Math because as a young student, I always lacked confidence in my skills and was terrified of this subject. However with the right attitude (and great teachers!), I was eventually able to master these skills and now I am able to teach them.

I provide a slow-paced, interactive lesson for a wide range of topics (catering to the needs and requests of my students). This includes: a one-on-one lesson through topic and guided examples. I provide detailed notes with rules, explanations and solutions to problems, etc. I am also able to provide homework help and test preparation sessions. I support students while they work through a work booklet with practice questions after each lesson. I emphasize the importance of understanding a concept, not just memorizing through repetition. The most important thing about math is building a strong foundation and understanding each small step. I am patient and willing to reteach students as many times as it takes to fully understand them. I took every math course available in high school and have extensive experience tutoring math through Kumon. I am able to confidently teach the curriculum for grades 1-9.
