About Reuben

I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Music and Sound Recording (Tonmeister) from the University of Surrey’s Institute of Sound Recording in the UK, an intensive program combining advanced acoustics, physics, applied mathematics, and digital media technology.

Prior to university, I achieved top marks across British A-levels in Mathematics, Physics, and Music, alongside straight A's at GCSE. This background gave me a rigorous foundation in quantitative problem-solving and technical communication.

As a tutor, I bring a calm, patient, and modern approach to learning. Because I completed my academic journey recently, I understand the challenges and pressures students face today. I focus on creating an encouraging environment where students feel confident tackling tough problems, asking questions, and mastering their coursework step by step.

School STEM curricula can often feel like an endless list of abstract formulas to memorize, leading students to ask the inevitable question: "Why does this actually matter?"

My lessons are designed to channel that curiosity. While my primary focus is always grounded firmly in the BC curriculum (Grades 8–12, Pre-Calculus, Physics, and Intro Programming), I ensure sessions go beyond rote test prep by connecting difficult concepts to intuitive, practical applications in the real world. This is the exact path I took, using high school Math and Physics as the foundation for my passion and career in music and audio technology.

I structure my lessons around addressing pain points as well as coaching areas where students can truly excel. This typically involves identifying exactly where classroom explanations fell short and rebuilding a student's understanding from first principles. For students already performing well, we push into deeper problem-solving strategies, exam efficiency, and advanced extension questions to secure top grades for competitive university admissions.

I pride myself on creating a low-pressure, relatable environment. Having navigated high-stakes STEM exams and university recently, I focus on being an approachable mentor rather than a rigid lecturer. Students are encouraged to ask the "why" and make mistakes comfortably until concepts click naturally.

Typical Session Structure

Complimentary 5-Min Decompression & Check-In: A brief catch-up to de-stress, review how school is feeling, and set our exact priorities for the session.

Homework & Concept Check (10–15 mins): Reviewing recent class material, tests, or difficult homework problems.

Active Guided Practice (30–35 mins): Working through progressive problem sets together to build muscle memory and identify misconceptions.

Synthesis & Real-World Tie-In (10 mins): Summarizing core principles and showing how they connect to upcoming units or broader applications.
