About Chris

I have a degree in Mathematics and a Master’s in Engineering Mathematics from the University of Bristol where I was awarded best student in my cohort.

Achieved A*A* grades in A-level Math and Further Math. For the last two years I’ve worked as a software developer in an engineering consultancy, where I use advanced math every day for modeling, calculations, and solving real engineering problems.

I enjoy seeing students grow into their full potential, which is what led me to tutor! There is nothing more satisfying than seeing students go from being unsure to being confident, especially in math.

About the lesson

How I teach:

I focus on finding exactly where the understanding breaks down and fixing those gaps properly, instead of just repeating the same explanations. I explain things clearly and step by step, always making sure you see why each rule or method works — not just how to use it. I use lots of real-life examples from engineering, physics, finance, or everyday situations so the maths feels useful and makes sense.

We usually start with a few quick questions to spot the tricky bits, then I go through the concept clearly. We do examples together (I guide at first, then you take the lead), followed by practice questions where I give instant feedback to help you improve right away. I use sketches, diagrams, and simple number patterns whenever it helps things click.
Most lessons are 60–90 minutes. 60 minutes is great for homework help or going over one topic. 90 minutes gives time for more examples, harder problems, and exam practice.

GCSE / IGCSE students
A-level Maths and Further Maths students (any exam board)
University students doing engineering mathematics or similar first-year courses
Adults wanting to refresh or improve their maths for work, further study, or qualifications

I teach students of all abilities — whether you’re struggling with the basics, want to build more confidence, or you’re aiming for the highest grades. My goal is to help you really understand the maths so you can tackle problems on your own.
