Create an atmosphere in which making mistakes is welcomed as a way to learn. Being afraid to make mistakes is a real hindrance. People don’t ask questions; they don’t take risks. Start there. Give them lots of exercises and reassure them that sometimes you learn a concept not by grasping it instantly but by practicing the work over and over.
