About Brian

Hello! My name is Brian Cox, and I am an experienced Literacy and Writing Specialist with over 15 years of experience helping students of all ages and backgrounds improve their reading, writing, and literacy skills. I hold a Master's degree in Education and have a strong background in developing customized reading curricula that meet the unique needs of each student, including those with ESL needs and learning disabilities. My teaching approach is rooted in clear, structured, and engaging instruction. I break down complex concepts into manageable steps, using research-based strategies to help students build reading comprehension, writing structure, and critical thinking skills. As a Literacy and Writing Specialist with over 15 years of experience and a Master’s degree in Education, I am passionate about helping students become confident, skilled readers and writers. I work with learners from elementary school through high school, including those with learning disabilities, ESL needs, and other individual challenges.

My Teaching Methods & Techniques:
I use explicit, research-based instruction tailored to each student's learning style and reading level. I integrate phonics, fluency, vocabulary building, comprehension strategies, and writing structure into my lessons. My approach is both data-driven and student-centered, ensuring that progress is measurable and meaningful.

I have helped develop school-wide reading curriculum, which gives me a strong foundation in how to scaffold literacy instruction effectively. I also have extensive experience working with ESL students, supporting them in building academic language and writing confidence while honoring their home language and cultural strengths.
