About Pat

I left school early but returned to education as an adult, which completely changed my life. While supporting a family and working 3 part-time jobs, I put myself through University College Cork after achieving enough points in one year of the Adult Leaving Cert class in the Cork College of Commerce. I have over 20 years' experience in teaching disadvantaged and mainstream students. It's been so enjoyable to see students blossom and go on to Post-Leaving Cert and 3rd Level courses after failing in mainstream education. It's also great to see mainstream students achieve enough points and go on to succeed in 3rd Level.

About the lesson

I use the LRU (Listen-Repeat-Understand) method of teaching. The student listens, then repeats, and finally translates the text. This method improves listening and speaking skills as well as comprehension. BA (Joint Hons) in Spanish and French 1992, H.Dip. Ed 1999, MA (Hispanic Studies) 2001. I teach adults looking to learn Spanish and French for holidays. I also teach LC and JC students looking to improve their language skills for state exams.
