About Nicole
Writing is at the heart of my education and career. I hold a bachelor's degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from Amherst College where I graduated magna cum laude with a science thesis. In September 2021, I graduated with a master's degree in Biological and Environmental Sciences and a certificate in Science Writing and Rhetoric from a thesis-based program at the University of Rhode Island. I have 3 years of experience tutoring K-12 students in English. Currently, I tutor a 3rd grader and 5th grader via Zoom on a near-daily basis, in addition to offering an array of remote editing services to students from 6th grade to the undergraduate level. My past educational experience has exposed me to many different writing styles, including cover letter, grantwriting, science writing, and creative writing. My past work as a teaching assistant at the University of Rhode Island and a mentor at various science organizations has given me additional experience crafting lesson plans and connecting with kids and young adults.

My teaching style molds to the individual student's needs, strengths, and weaknesses. In general, I believe that writing is all about finding one's voice. As such, my lessons are discussion-based and focus on ways to strengthen each student's weaknesses. I follow a systems-based teaching design by introducing multiple concepts to encourage analytical thinking. The customizable lesson plans are collaborative, and each student is encouraged to provide input on their needs. In my past teaching experiences, I have found this strategy to be best for memory retention and student interest. I also offer remote online editing services at $25/hr
