I recommend Valentina because of her heart for the children. She goes above and beyond to foster relationships with the children that build trust. Through this trust, she encouraged them to try harder than they ever have. I worked with her at United Elementary State Street. She also taught my daughter in both 1st and 3rd grade. My daughter was diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia. She insisted that she could not read. Through Ms. Dixon's encouragement and dedication, she started doing her homework. Ms. Dixon noticed that there were several students that almost passed the state test (my daughter included). She volunteered to tutor these students for 2.4 weeks in the summer and proctor a retest. My daughter, having her diagnosis at this time, was given accommodations for her dyslexia and dysgraphia. My daughter went from nearly passing to having the highest score in her grade. Over the past 3 summers, Ms. Dixon has continued to tutor the students who were close to passing. In doing so, she has reduced the number of students held back due to state test performance. I appreciate that she saw students who had potential but needed a push. She took initiative and inspired students to give their best during summer lessons.

I’ve known Valentina since she was a student in my class her first year at Otterbein University. She impressed me then with her ability to connect with others—both students and faculty. After she graduated and until I retired in 2025, I invited Valentina to speak to my classes each semester. She related to my students both personally and professionally, educating them about their own careers and inspiring them to make the world better for all.
