About Max

I am a student at the University of Notre Dame where I study English and Education, Schooling, and Society. I am an experienced tutor with 5+ years of experience working with students ranging from the elementary grades through high school. Having come from a selective private high school in the Bay Area, I understand how to best support students struggling to meet the demanding atmosphere of the 21st-century high school experience. In regards to experience in the classroom, I have taught 6th and 7th-grade English as well as Freshman Writing for 9th-grade students. Outside of the classroom I enjoy running, hiking, visiting the beach, and reading.

About the lesson

When we address the English language, we can come from a place of seeking perfection. This is not the case with writing. During my 60-minute sessions, I work with my students to understand how to become stronger writers through practice and honing the editing process. I also spend time focusing on reading and analysis strategies to make the writing process less daunting.

The best teacher I have ever had! Mr. Amend helped me in 7th grade ELA in SF and made all the difference. He is very patient and helps you understand how to write better. I give him so much credit for getting me where I am today. Oh, and really nice guy!

After having him teach at my high school, I have worked with Max online for over a year. Max is great at editing and helping me see how I can strengthen my writing. When I do not have a school writing assignment, he helped me strengthen my writing skills with direct exercises. I would recommend him if you want to become a stronger writer.

Max is awesome! He has helped my high school Junior understand how to write for his classes. He is very patient and he helps his students understand their errors. It has been amazing to see my son take command of his learning again post Covid.

After our first semester working with Max in San Francisco, I have been blown away with the confidence my daughter has with school testing. Max helped her study for tests she was initially failing and she has improved incredibly, shocking my husband and I. His calm demeanor helps her hunker down and focus which gets her the results we want to see as parents, but also that make her feel confident in the classroom.
