About John
I have been teaching students for 12 years now! Mostly private piano lessons, but I have also taught group piano lessons. My students know me as someone who is reliably present and responsive to their needs. I also just love music, teaching, and talking to people, so being able to combine all of these is a joy.

I come from a piano background, teaching all levels of musicianship, from beginners to advanced. I believe knowing how music works deepens the listening and emotional experience.
I have a lot of experience teaching beginner and intermediate piano, where we cover note reading, scales, chords and their functions, and meter. But I also have experience with more advanced tonal harmony and 12-tone music from my 4 year undergraduate degree and 2 year Master's degree.
Because I teach the same piano students for many years, I also have experience with building a long-term curriculum to help guide students to meet their individual needs.
