About Matthew
Hi! I'm Matthew, a flute player and educator based in Manchester. I'm currently working as a Flute Tutor at Trafford Music Service, and as a House Parent at Chetham’s School of Music. I graduated from the University of Manchester in 2021, and from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2022- studying on the prestigious Joint Course with Cormac Henry and Janet Richardson. Throughout my musical journey, I’ve always been passionate about providing lively, positive flute tuition which supports all needs and goals!

As a flute teacher, my primary focus is to work with students to develop the fundamentals necessary to have longevity in their experience of playing the flute: ensuring that the body is in congruence with the instrument, that the music being played is engaging and challenging, and that their sense of creativity is allowed to flourish through improvisation, composition, and creative input. And as a teacher of music theory, my priority is to make sure what is being taught is relevant, engaging and dynamic.
I have been teaching flute for the last 8 years, including teaching several online beginners from their very first notes! In-person lessons are usually 60minutes while online lessons can be 30 or 60. I have worked with a variety of music projects, including Jubacana (as a melody tutor), the National Orchestra for All (as a volunteer and chaperone) and Special Virtuosi (where I was a volunteer tutor) and I have a passion for access to music education.
