About Cielo
I was born in Colombia and graduated as a Civil Engineer, a field I worked in for about 12 years, both in Colombia and the USA. I also lived two years in Spain, and I have been living in the USA for over 20 years.
I fell in love with teaching languages when I became a mom and watched my children learning three different languages at the same time. I decided to change careers and have never stopped learning about the science of teaching and the beauty of languages.
I am a firm believer that learning comes most easily when you are enjoying an activity and having fun. I put a lot of effort into making my classes engaging, interactive, and enjoyable.
I love being around kids and teenagers — their authenticity and creativity make my classes fun, and I learn a lot from them as well.
I also enjoy teaching adults. Recently, for fun, I’ve been leading a Spanish book club for friends who have a little Spanish but a lot of enthusiasm to improve it.
I look forward to guiding each student on their Spanish journey, making learning meaningful, fun, and confidence-building.

My tutoring is student-centered and flexible. I design each lesson based on the individual needs, goals, and learning style of each student, and I continuously adapt lessons as the student grows in confidence and proficiency.
I teach Spanish using ACTFL-aligned methods, with Comprehensible Input (CI) as the foundation. This means students acquire Spanish naturally through meaningful, understandable communication rather than memorization alone. I use visuals, gestures, stories, conversation, and real-life contexts to make Spanish engaging and accessible. When a student’s needs are more grammar-focused, I adapt my lessons accordingly and provide clear, supportive grammar instruction.
A typical lesson may include listening and speaking activities, guided conversation, reading or storytelling, and targeted practice to support schoolwork or personal goals. Grammar is usually introduced in context to support communication; however, when improving grammar is the main goal, I design specific activities to help students understand and acquire grammar rules effectively.
What sets me apart is not only being a native Spanish speaker, but also my experience teaching and tutoring across age groups and settings, my ability to adjust lessons in real time, and my strong focus on building confidence.
Lessons are available for children, teens, and adults, including adult beginners and heritage learners. Support may include school reinforcement, enrichment, conversation practice, or long-term language development.
