About Michael
I am a long-time teacher, lecturer, examiner and professional tutor with a patient and supportive approach; I have taught 4000+ hours to over a thousand students. I passed my PhD in English at the University of Leicester. I also hold a Masters with Distinction from Oxford Brookes University and a First Class undergraduate from Loughborough University. I have successfully taught at over ten schools in Oxfordshire, many private students and at university level during the last ten years. This has ranged from general/casual learning to exam and entrance preparation at all levels. I have taught students on and prepared them for the following tests and levels: Primary: KS2, 11+, Common Entrance Secondary: KS3, 12+, Common Entrance, GCSE, A-level, IB English Language - Prepa, PET, CPE, IELTS, FCE and CAE. My approach is friendly, gentle and supportive but extremely professional. At the heart of my tutoring is how important it is that a student believes in their own ability to learn and to progress. If there is one word I hear my students kindly use to describe my qualities it would be 'patience'. Yet I never feel like my patience is tested - I love the challenge of finding new, innovative ways to help them understand their subject. I am a long-time teacher, lecturer, examiner and professional tutor with a patient and supportive approach. I have taught 5000+ hours at over fifteen schools and colleges, four major universities and with hundreds of private students. This has ranged from general/casual learning to exam and entrance preparation at all levels. In addition to weekly supplementary tutoring, I also offer a homeschool tutoring programme and am happy to take full responsibility for the independent delivery of the curriculum. I passed my PhD in English at the University of Leicester. I also hold a Masters with Distinction from Oxford Brookes University and a First Class undergraduate degree from Loughborough University. I hold qualifications in educational psychology and in supporting adult dyslexia. My approach is friendly, gentle and supportive but extremely professional. At the heart of my tutoring is how important it is that a student believes in their own ability to learn and to progress. If there is one word I hear my students kindly use to describe my qualities it would be 'patience'. Yet I never feel like my patience is tested - I love the challenge of finding new, innovative ways to help them understand their subject. At home, I live in Oxfordshire with my wife Kate and two stepsons. I enjoy music festivals, running and long walks with our dog Maple.

Michael has been helping my daughter with her English A level work for nearly a couple of months now & seems to be getting on well with him. She finds him very knowledgeable with good ideas and likes his calming, patient personality. I would highly recommend him!
Michael is an excellent tutor, I cannot praise him enough, our son had failed his English Language twice so had a negative attitude for his third attempt. Michael quickly built up a positive and encouraging working relationship with Toby. He went that extra mile to help him.
