About Erika

Hello! My name is Erika and I am so excited to help you succeed in your French language studies. Enrolled at the age of 3 in French immersion, I have spoken French for 25 years and counting. I have lived in Paris, France as well as the bilingual capital of Canada, Ottawa. Learning a language is so much more than vocabulary - it's also about learning about Francophone cultures and I can provide this.

My higher education background has trained me as a master's level child and youth psychotherapist, which positions me well to work with youth and understanding their challenges. My master's degree was completed entirely in the French language. Since graduating, I have worked in clinical settings as well as the tourism industry for French companies. While my formal training is in the mental health industry, I also enjoy working as a scuba instructor and travelling the world.

About the lesson

I believe that a successful student is one who becomes inspired and empowered by their studies! As someone who is not Francophone but has spoken French since the age of 3, I understand the challenges of learning the language and can provide instruction at a native-speaker level. I have lived and worked in French for several years, and can also provide cultural exposure to a variety of Francophone cultures.

My formal training is as a child and youth mental health clinician and my undergraduate degree is in psychology, while my master's degree in counselling psychology was completed entirely in French. As such, I am very comfortable working with all ages and understand the developmental learning needs of every student. Compassion and empathy is a cornerstone of my approach, particularly when students get discouraged or frustrated.

I am available to tutor all school ages and all levels, including IB and AP French until the end of high school. I am also available for tutoring French at the university level.
