About Jada

I am a recently graduated scientist with a Bachelor's in Biology, a minor in chemistry, and a concentration in molecular science. During my time as an undergrad, I took a myriad of classes across the STEM spectrum. These include Calculus I, General Chemistry and Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Vertebrate Physiology, Plant Physiology, and Genetics to name a few. I also conducted research at my university, California State University, Monterey Bay, and New York University before becoming a part of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center, which specializes in connecting undergraduates to research communities across a wide range of disciplines. I have attended numerous scientific conferences and even have a paper that is close to publication in the Journal of Molecular Liquids.

My teaching/tutoring experience began in college. I was an instructional assistant at a summer tech camp for kids ages 5-15 where I assisted in teaching classes in coding, filmmaking, animation and game design, and content creation. In recent years, I have been an instructional teaching assistant for a class entitled Practical Computing for Scientists, in which I provide in-class support and office hours for students struggling with the material. I was also hired to tutor scientific writing at CSUMB but was unable to assume the position due to funding issues related to the COVID pandemic. Most recently, I have been a daycare provider for my three young nieces (ages 5, 7, and 12) throughout the California schools shutdown. I was able to bring the youngest from an inability to identify letters of the alphabet to reading 6 and 7 letters words in 6 months. I have worked with the middle daughter to boost her mathematics skills and she can now add and subtract with proof of her work and the ability to explain her reasoning. The oldest was having trouble with pre-algebra and I was able to boost her test scores and her confidence in her math skills.

I am in the process of applying to be a substitute in the California School system and passed the CBEST with a combined score of 150.

About the lesson

Recognizing that each student learns differently, I am committed to providing a comfortable learning environment for auditory, kinesthetic, visual, and all other learners. Science and math can be daunting for many students. My teaching inspires students to find their own ways of understanding and draw personal connections to their work, helping them remember the material and take charge of their learning.

My lessons are inquiry-based and geared toward inquisitive students from elementary school to college, especially those interested in pursuing a career in STEM. Subjects are taught starting with general information and then addressing specifics. Small art projects are a part of most lessons, no matter what the subject. Long-term tutoring will allow me to address students' needs in a more nuanced fashion.

Group Lessons will be collaborative and students will learn how to work in a group to achieve a shared goal.
